Rest In Peace Miss Kitty

Miss Kitty, remember when I found you howling in our tree?

What were you doing up there?

And then when you finally crawled down, remember when you sat in my lap all day and would not let me get up?

Remember when you made that awful sound at the front door, and came running into the house with a bird in your mouth, feathers flying down the hallway?

Remember the dismembered squirrel bodies you left in the yard? I don't want to know where the heads are, do I?

Remember how you and Mischief always knew when there was a snake in the garage, and your eyes would get really big, and you would pace around the door?

Remember when we accidently closed the garage door when you were sleeping on top of it, and you made a cat scream, but then you were ok, and we pampered you and you forgave us?

Remember curling up in a little ball close to me while I did my homework or drew in my notebooks?

Because I remember.

Thanks for choosing us, Miss Kitty. Wherever you are now may you still have a lizard tail hanging out of your mouth and a big yard full of squirrels to chase and a heapin' plate of stinky wet cat food... XXOO

Score!

Today I found this book in the free bin at work:

I love old crafty books, it's how I learned most of what I do.

This book is on Ebay right now for 3.99.

It shows you how to make very random things, like a serving knife, cake holder, a photogram, a weather vane, a day bed... etc.

I'm totally making this:

The text reads:

"A good record collection needs special care - even the new LP's can warp. This cabinet will solve this problem and also allow you to take out a stack of records and sort them on the shelf... Note the lettering on the top moulding, identifying the various kinds of records for easy selection. The letters come in decalcomania type of sheets, available in art supply stores, and can be removed easily."

Decalcomania?? I love how the music categories are comprised of "songs" "instruments" ... "dance" and "pop". I'm rearranging my music collection this way.

Aarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

So you made it through Talk Like A Pirate day without a single salty muttering. Yet pirate love is still in the cards! We're going to the 2nd Annual Portland Pirate Festival tomorrow. Maybe we'll see you there? In the meantime, you can gaze upon the hypnotic arms of my cat pirate whirligig in this here little movie I made. Whirligig is powered by the gentle breeze of a small table fan. Maybe later I'll show you how I make my whirligigs...

Oh and also today I got this funny little postcard in the mail from my favorite zinester/bike tour organizer/IPRC buddy Shawn Granton:

All Things Small

This weekend, my cousin stopped by on her way to Seattle to the Ohio state game. Not a football fan myself but I'm always excited when someone's really into something (and it was good to see my cousin.) We made buckeyes in her honor (Ohio state being the Buckeyes.) If you've never had a buckeye, it's like a fancier version of a peanut butter cup, but fashioned just like a real buckeye, which is some kind of nut, I think.

So I couldn't help but get excited by the process of making the buckeyes, which created a terrain of these peanut butter ball armies:

And then I got inspired to remain on this small scale, and found myself painting these itty bitty paintings. They're about the size of my palm. Don't let that picture fool you, that paintbrush has hairs the size of eyelashes!

Blogs I Dig

Check out Duc's lovely blog, he reviews blank notebooks, amongst other things... ducly.wordpress.com

Nick's metal-heavy music sharing blog - and if you can figure out how it works, let me know:
audialforensics.blogspot.com

The mysterious ad story blog, a compilation of classifieds, pieced together as found objects:
ad-story.org

And have you checked out the IPRC's website? It's blowin' up thanks to Carye Bye and company:
iprc.org

Some things I found at work today:

Something I overheard at work today:
"I've got a funny stain on my pants."

Why do you hesitate?

Can you not draw objects as freely as you can write their names and speak words about them?

Do you aim for a style with recognizable visual vocabulary?

Do you polish up the work beyond its bare aesthetic elements?

Do you add ingratiating elements beyond the raw aesthetic basis?

Are you saddled with nature propaganda?

Are you afraid to exercise vigor, seek surprise?

Do you recognize any points of attainment?

Do they change? Is there a final goal?

If you could, would you overthrow the present values of harmony and tradition?

Do you think museums are your friend and do you think they will be interested in your work?

Do you ever think you will make a living from museums?

Do you ever think acclaim can help you? Can you trust it?

What has caused this mental block?
